Plants of the Sierra Foothills--Part 2

Across the foothills the hillsides become showy with color. The yellow flowers in the picture are fiddlenecks (Amsinckia sp.) and the white ones are popcorn flowers (Plagiobothrys sp.), both among the first to bloom in spring.

Gilia capitata, or ball-headed gilia.

Silene californica, called Indian pink, but it is more often brilliant red-orange than pink.

Trifolium repens, a kind of clover, with a native bee. Bees are extremely important pollinators of Sierra plants.
